Let’s get something out of the way: I love winter beers. Everything about them is delightful. The spices, the alcohol content, the malt, sometimes the hops, the limited availability, and the overall good times that usually come with this time of year. Nothing is better than having folks over for the Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Saturnalia/Festivus/Solstice celebrations, and breaking out the good beers for the occasion. That said, let’s party with Rivertown…
This winter warmer pours a nice looking amber with a decent head that disappears at a regular pace. The smell is not too heavy, I do pick up some cinnamon though. As I have stated before though, my sense of smell is a bit wrecked after years of being a zookeeper. Taste wise though, this beer is a bit different than some other winter beers that I have had. Sweet is where it is at. Sweet mixed with a nice balanced touch of cinnamon. The cinnamon mixes with the sweet touch of molasses, and has a nice bread malt flavor as well mixed in there. Not a bad mix if you ask me. It reminds me of the time of year, which I would imagine is the intent…
This is definitely not your normal winter ale, but it is definitely worth a try. It is almost too sweet for me, but almost. I enjoy this one, and it is probably the most enjoyable beer from Rivertown that I have had. This beer makes me excited for what the future holds for Rivertown, well done!
Cheers!
